Classic IVF
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a method of infertility treatment when other methods have failed, are not applicable, or when the couple chooses informed IVF as the primary treatment option. The success rates for conventional IVF are the highest and vary depending on age, ranging from 35% to 50%.
What are the indications for IVF?
The primary factors for which Traditional IVF is indicated include:
• Tubal factor infertility, such as the absence or blockage of the uterine tubes
• Ovulatory dysfunction, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
• Endometriosis
• Infertility in patients over 35 years old
• Male factor infertility, including azoospermia (absence of sperm in the ejaculate).
The IVF procedure includes the following stages:
✓ Preparation for the IVF procedure
✓ Ovarian puncture and oocyte retrieval
✓ In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) of oocytes and embryo culture
✓ Embryo(s) transfer into the uterine cavity and/or cryopreservation procedure
✓ Hormonal support of the endometrium for pregnancy maintenance
What is Classic IVF?
Classic IVF involves hormonal stimulation with gonadotropins. The goal of ovarian stimulation is to develop multiple oocytes simultaneously (naturally, a woman's body releases only one oocyte each month). The duration of hormonal treatment varies from patient to patient, averaging 8-12 days. The treatment requires ultrasound monitoring and blood tests for potential dose adjustments and oocyte retrieval planning
Additionally, adjuvant medications are required: GnRH agonists or antagonists (to prevent premature ovulation) and human chorionic gonadotropin (to induce ovulation)
What are the risks?
Ovarian stimulation increases the chances of achieving pregnancy but is associated with the following risks:
• Allergic reactions to the use of stimulation medications can occur: local discomfort, redness, itching, swelling
• The ovarian stimulation protocol may be stopped due to a lack of stimulation effect
• Premature ovulation (before egg retrieval)
• Formation of ovarian cysts
• Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)
What protocols are applied?
For ovarian stimulation, we use various protocols, individually selected for each patient:
• The GnRH antagonist protocol
• The GnRH agonist protocol
• The GnRH Agonist to Antagonist Conversion Protocol
• The Step-Up and Step-Down Ovarian Stimulation Protocols
In addition, to increase the chances of success for some patients, additional adjuvants may be recommended: nutritional supplements, metformin, aspirin, heparin, estrogen priming, androgens, and others.
