Endometrial rejuvenation (PRP)

What is endometrial rejuvenation/refreshing?

The endometrium is the lining that coats the inner surface of the uterus. The thickness of the endometrium plays a very crucial role during embryo implantation. The thicker it is, the more favorable it is for the embryo. Endometrial rejuvenation is a procedure in which the endometrium is biostimulated with platelet-rich plasma (PRP). This regenerates the mucosal cells and increases the thickness of the endometrium, which improves the chances of achieving pregnancy, primarily in cases of multiple failed In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycles.

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?

It is platelet-rich plasma obtained from the patient's blood. After collecting the blood sample from the patient, it is centrifuged to separate the platelets from other blood components. This results in a high concentration of platelets. At the same time, growth factors are released. These factors have the property of stimulating the body's tissue regeneration mechanisms, which in this case represents the endometrium.

When is endometrial rejuvenation indicated?

It is indicated in the following cases:
- Endometrial hypotrophy (the endometrium is thin, does not respond to stimulation);
- Unexplained infertility (the endometrium appears to be normal, both structurally and qualitatively, but does not allow embryo implantation);
- Two or more embryo implantation failures (IVF);
- Early pregnancy loss (in the first trimester);
- Repeated pregnancy loss (in the first trimester);
- Preventative treatment (to increase the chances and capability of embryo implantation).

What are the steps of the procedure?

1. Consultation with the gynecologist and completion of the medical record.
2. Signing the informed consent for the procedure.
3. Consuming 0.75-1 liter of water before the procedure.
4. The nurse takes a 10 ml blood sample from a vein to obtain the platelet-rich plasma.
5. Optionally, in case of patient sensitivity, anesthetic gel LIDBREE can be administered before the procedure.
6. Performing the PRP procedure: injecting the platelet-rich plasma into the endometrium.
7. 10-minute rest after the procedure.
8. Issuance of the medical extract.
9. Follow-up consultation with the gynecologist.
